Plumbing Problem and The Solution

4 Common Plumbing Problem and The Solution

The plumbing in your home is a complex network of pipes and taps. Each component is specifically designed to handle its part of the job. Everything must be working in harmony to ensure that you have running water. So it’s not surprising that when something goes wrong it can often lead to an emergency that can pose a risk to the integrity of your house and the health of it’s occupants. So, we provide the plumbing problem that might happen in your hour with the solution.

1. Burst Pipes

A pipe burst can occur when the pressure in a pipe gets too high for it to contain and it ruptures. This can quickly become a serious plumbing problem due to the flooding damage caused.

What to do?

  • Locate and turn off the main water valve to avoid any extra water damage.
  • If water is leaking near any electrical outlets or appliances, switch off main electricity.
  • Call a plumber as soon as possible.

2. Leaking Fixtures

A leaking fixture can be like a burst pipe in slow motion. In many cases, you may not notice that it is happening until you start to see signs of damage for example, rusty water, water stains on walls or cabinets, a musty aroma and cracking in your flooring. The damage from this common plumbing problem is often hidden rotting floors and wall frames.

What to do?

  • If minor, fit a clamp to the affected pipe
  • If leaking continues or worsens, contact a plumber.

3. Blocked Drains

Block drains are usually easily identifiable. If your sink, shower or toilet won’t drain properly, then you likely have a blocked drain. Blockages can occur for a number of reasons, which are broken or incorrectly installed pipes, heavy rains and a build-up of foreign objects in the pipe. Blocked toilets are a particularly nasty plumbing problem!

What to do?

  • In most cases, if the blockage has occurred near the top of the pipe, the obstruction can be cleared with a plunger or plumbers snake.
  • For stubborn blockages, a drain cleaning chemical can help clear the pipe.
  • If there is a major blockage that has occurred deep in the pipe system, a plumber may need to jet wash the obstruction.

Last but least….

4. Gas Leak

These are the most dangerous of plumbing problems. Gas leak are easily ignited and can lead to fires or even explosions. If undetected, they can also cause carbon monoxide poisoning which can be fatal. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include: headaches, fatigue, dizziness and nausea. A gas leak can usually be identified by an odor similar to rotten eggs, unusual “hissing” or “whistling” noise coming from or near a gas line or gas appliance.

What to do?

  • Call your emergency plumber and fire department, then evacuate the area immediately!
  • Call a qualified gas plumber and never attempt to repair a gas leak by yourself.
